Interested in volunteering your time to help women and children rebuild their lives? Become part of the solution of homelessness in the Richmond Community by sharing your gifts with us. Our volunteer base is diverse and experienced in many areas. We have opportunities for individuals, families or groups who want to share their time, hope and compassion.
Hilliard House welcomes groups to prepare and serve dinner for our residents through our Evening Supper Program. This is a wonderful opportunity to learn more about our program and to talk with the residents about their goals and current and future life plans.
This volunteer opportunity requires individuals or groups to provide a "prepared meal" for up to 30 people (12 adults and 18 children), and additional food for the number of volunteers coming to engage our residents. During the weeknights, the groups usually arrive at 5:00pm to set up the dinner and dinner is served at 5:30pm. Dinner should consist of a hot, well balanced meal. There are also opportunities to provide brunch, lunch and dinner on the weekends. If you have a group interested in being a part of the Evening Supper Program, please contact E. LaVon January at ext 28 to sign up.
Volunteers are always needed to tutor/mentor both the children and mothers in reading and other subjects. These sessions can be designed to work with one resident or with a group. Usually, the sessions are conducted after school or on the weekends. We also welcome individuals who can conduct workshops on an array of topics from credit repair and computer literacy to job interviewing, resume writing, and parenting. Please contact E. LaVon January at 804-236-5800 ext 28 to find out more about this great volunteer activity.
One of the exciting and most enjoyable activities that Hilliard House provides is field trips to many different social, community, and educational events. Baseball games, bowling, skating, the Science and Children's museum, along with many other outings, allow the children and parents to experience firsthand the excitement of these events. Groups are invited to sponsor a field trip by either monetary donations to cover the cost or donating passes to functions. Please contact E. LaVon January at 804-236-5800 ext 28 to find out more about this great volunteer activity.
