Volunteer

Interested in volunteering your time to help women and children rebuild their lives? Become part of the solution of homelessness in the Richmond Community by sharing your gifts with us. Our volunteer base is diverse and experienced in many areas. We have opportunities for individuals, families or groups who want to share their time, hope and compassion.

Evening Supper Program

Hilliard House welcomes groups to prepare and serve dinner for our residents through our Evening Supper Program. This is a wonderful serving opportunity to make our residents feel special!

Volunteering through our Evening Supper Program requires individuals or groups to provide a prepared meal for up to 30 people (10 adults and 21 children), and additional food for the number of volunteers in your group coming serve. During the weeknights, volunteers usually arrive at 5:00pm to set up dinner and dinner is served from 5:30pm to 6:30 pm. Dinner should consist of a hot, well balanced meal. Tutoring/Mentoring

Volunteers are always needed to tutor our children in reading and other subjects. These sessions can be designed to work with one resident or with a group. Usually, the sessions are conducted after school. We also welcome individuals who can conduct workshops for our moms on an array of topics from credit repair to life skills, etc.. Field Trips

One of the exciting and most enjoyable activity that Hilliard House provides is field trips to many different social, community, and educational events. Activities such as baseball games, bowling, skating, the Science and Children's museum allow our children and parents to experience firsthand the excitement of these events. We invite our supporters to sponsor field trips by either monetary donations to cover the cost of the field trip, or donating passes to functions.
